Manchester, big but fun City
Roberta Parkin is 22. She lives in Manchester. We've been talking to Robertas all over the country. Taking pictures. Visiting clubs. Snooping around shops. Seeing just how so-called swinging the youth scene really is.
This week's scene: Manchester. character? it may not have the smoothest personality but you can't ignore it. and it lives up to the old realistic Northern demand for value for money.
INTRO went there to find out what makes it tick,. What did we find?
Manchester is big: centre of an enormous industrial and commercial complex. Its university may very well soon be the largest in the country. Big jets swoop non-stop into the airport. Huge and grimy office buildings stand cheek to cheek with soaring modern skyscrapers including the tallest office block in England.
Manchester is small: small enough to make friends quickly, to make a big impression on the scene, if you're talented, or even just determined.
The young scene is popping, but could pop some more. There are good shops and the clothes are there, but it's taking time for many Mancunians to take the plunge for the brightest, best clothes around.
Night life is great. Manchester is deservedly famous for its clubs.
The place is wide open for anyone who likes to live in an oyster of a city, who wants a place to know she's there. Young life in Manchester is fun, and a girl can make a splash.
